Oral Health Campaign

Dear Colleagues,

On behalf of Her Excellency, Dr. Nada Haffadh, Minister of Health, I am pleased to invite you to the Bahrain British Dental Congress: “Partnership Towards Dental Excellence”, which coincides with the celebration of the Quincentenary of the oldest medical institution in the world, The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

Over the past 500 years, the College has maintained the highest standards of surgical practice, through education, research and training.  We are pleased that Bahrain has been selected for this important event and the timing could not be more significant, as the Royal College has been an integral partner in the professional development of our specialists. Together, we have witnessed major achievements and continue striving for improvement in the development of future generations of medical professionals

The Ministry of Health’s vision and goal is to provide high standards of healthcare to the community, and Oral Health Care represents the entirety of a health service priority. New developments open up exciting possibilities for treatment or care we simply could not have envisaged even 20 years ago. The Congress will certainly provide an ideal environment for experts from around the world who will gather here to share and exchange knowledge and expertise.  Collaboration will be a key to fostering links between international and national participants in this activity.

I must commend members of the Bahrain British Dental Congress Committees for their enormous contribution and initiatives in organizing such an important event.   I wish you all the best and look forward to joining you at the Congress and our MGDS graduates at the Diploma Conferring Ceremony.

Dr. A.Wahab Moh'd A.Wahab

President of the Congress

Message

For several years the Faculty of Dental Surgery, Royal College of Surgeon of Edinburgh has enjoyed a close professional relationship with dental authorities in Bahrain. This has been to mutual benefit and we in Edinburgh have certainly benefited from the stimulus provided by enthusiastic young dentists in postgraduate training in Bahrain and high standard of clinical teaching provided by their staff.

During 2005/6 the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh is celebrating its 500 years of continuous existence with a series of events in several countries throughout the world. Currently there are over 17,000 Fellows and Members of the College in good standing living in 91 countries. The College therefore is truly International College although based in Edinburgh. It is not possible to celebrate the quincentenary in every country where we have Fellows but Bahrain is such a friendly country, and the dental authorities and health care services so efficient, that it was an obvious venue for a meeting.

This congress highlights the partnership which has developed between us and while there will e a several speakers from UK there will be equally only.

significant contributions from local staff that in addition are doing a magnificent job in ensuring that this will be an outstanding meeting both scientifically and socially.

I am delighted to confirm that in addition to raft of fine speakers the President of the College will attend for one day to facilitate a Diploma Award Ceremony and the Chief Dental Officer of England will fully participate in a workshop on preventive dentistry.

Both the Dean of the faculty of Dental Surgery and I look forward to meeting you in Bahrain in February 2006.

Dr. G Howard Moody
Vice Dean /Faculty of Dental Surgery, RCSEd
